10–12 October 2026 | Chiang Mai, Thailand

MAP Foundation organised an “Introduction to Economic Abuse and Digital Data Collection Training” from 10–12 October 2026 in Chiang Mai, bringing together around 22 migrant women leaders and community volunteers from northern, southern, and central Thailand. This training marked the first time digital data collection training was introduced to migrant women by the MAP Foundation.

The training aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of economic abuse and build their practical skills in digital data collection to support future research on the issue. Participants explored different forms of economic abuse that can occur within households and in the workplace, discussing how these experiences affect migrant women in their daily lives.

An important part of the training focused on practical research methods. Participants were introduced to Kobo Toolbox, a digital platform for collecting and managing data, and practised conducting in-depth interviews (IDIs). These activities helped participants develop their skills in gathering information systematically and documenting experiences for research purposes.

Throughout the training, participants shared experiences and perspectives from their respective areas, highlighting the different forms of economic abuse and the situations in which it occurs within migrant communities. The discussions provided an opportunity to learn from one another and deepen their understanding of the challenges faced by migrant women in different parts of Thailand.

By combining knowledge-sharing with practical data collection exercises, the training strengthened participants’ capacity to identify and document economic abuse. The skills they gained will support further research and contribute to a better understanding of migrant women’s experiences and challenges.
