Currently, MAP Community Radio in Chiang Mai broadcasts 56 hours of live programs in three languages: Shan, Karen, and Thai and MAP Community Radio. Mae Sot will begin broadcasting in Burmese, Thai and Karen in the near future. MAP Broadcasts cover a wide variety of topics such as migrant rights, occupational health and workplace safety, HIV/AIDS prevention, women?s issues, worker issues, youth issues, general health and various cultural topics and issues. Our broadcasters come from a variety of groups including: ethnic migrant communities, governmental organization, NGO networks and MAP Staff.
Mainstream media in Thailand tends to reproduce negative stereotypes of migrants and ethnic populations, labelling them as uneducated, criminals, victims or spreaders of disease. MAP radio provides migrants the space to positively represent themselves and help shatter myths often held by the general public. MAP Community Radio gives migrants the opportunity for their voices and opinions to be heard, encouraging public participation and civic engagement. See our schedule below for the diverse programming in a number of languages, themes and in partnership with other NGOs, GOs and members of the migrant community.
