For the past three decades people from Burma have migrated to Thailand in an effort to escape the brutal repression and dire economic circumstances within their home country.

In 1996, thousands of migrants from Burma were working in Chiang Mai building hotels, housing estates, and hospitals throughout the city. At the time there were almost no services available to migrants and when migrants attempted to seek services such as health care they faced difficulties due to language barriers and unaffordable fees.

Volunteer opportunities
MAP Foundation offers volunteeer opportunitiese based on experience and skills for a minimum of a three month commitment. Interested persons who have bilingual skills with migran languages are especially encouraged to inquire. If you are interested in volunteeering at MAP please write to MAP at <
