Programmes Overview

MAP Foundation's main office is in Chiang Mai, and has an additional office located in Mae Sot.  MAP previously maintained an office for four years in Phang-Nga to respond to needs of migrants after the Tsunami in 2004. We decided to close the office in June 2009, but many of our projects continue to be run by migrant communities.    MAP also maintains a network along the Thai-Burma border and stays connected with emerging migrant communities wherever they may be.

BACKGROUND

They come seeking employment, livelihood and, for some, refuge. Nearly all migrants from Burma support their families and communities in Burma by sending home money they earn in Thailand.

HOW WE STARTED

Written by Super User on . Posted in MAP Foundation

A group of NGOs working on issues related to migration originally sought to respond to this situation by training a group of migrants who could interpret in hospitals and provide health prevention education and promotion on migrant worksites, mainly on construction sites. As MAP became a part of the migrant community and established a strong relationship of trust, the broad range of challenging issues facing migrant workers became increasingly apparent and MAP expanded its activities in order to meet the needs of migrant workers more effectively.
