The Administrative Court has thrown out a case seeking an injunction against government plans to raise the national daily minimum wage to 300 baht.
The court dropped the case filed by 41 business operators, saying the tripartite Central Wage Committee's decision on the wage hike followed proper procedures and that employers must abide by the panel's decision.

Stranded in factories or dormitories during the floods, often without their passports and documents in their possession, many migrant workers are now facing hefty fines for overstaying their visas and/or their 90 days notification.
Burmese migrant workers at the Sang Chareon Hot Dip Galvinize Co Ltd in Pathum Thani told MAP Foundation that they are being fined over Bt15,000 for overstaying because of the floods. The workers' visas expired on October 28 and the human resources manager who held their passports could not get to the Immigration office because Pathum Thani was under water. On November 25, they were told that Immigration would charge them Bt15,000 each for the 20 days overstay. Overstay fees for visa are Bt500 a day with a maximum of Bt20,000 fine.

There are an estimated three million migrant workers working in Thailand, both legally and illegally. Many of these migrants are concentrated in the North along the border with Burma. This is also the hub of Thailand's garment industry.

Amid this drama, there have been some magnificent reactions from volunteers, companies, as well as troops, government and city officials who have worked tirelessly for the public good.

In the midst of a humanitarian crisis, the local authorities in Mae Sot, Tak Province have declared a witch hunt on undocumented migrant workers. Mae Sot is the closest crossing point into Burma for the thousands of migrants affected by the floods in Bangkok and Central Thailand. It is also a town of refuge, or at least was.
